The photograph to the right is of Clueso and I jumping at Weston Lawns. It was his first "arena eventing" and outdoor showjumping competition. "Inspector Clueso" is Irish Cob (possibly Xwelsh) and is 5 this year. He was bought from a fellow "treccie" in Cardigan in August 2005 and was bought principally to compete in BHS TREC. However he is very talented and shows off in the dressage arena and loves to jump. My 14hh pony has grown to almost 15.1hh!

Heather Lucas will be very sadly missed by everyone
We are sad to announce that Heather Lucas, the BHS West Midlands County Chairman, passed away suddenly on 15 October 2009. Her influence and enthusiasm for the BHS and for TREC knew no bounds and she will be greatly missed. Her funeral took place at Telford Crematorium on Tuesday 27 October at 1.15pm. Heather’s family have requested no flowers, instead they would like donations to be made to The Brooke and as a Region we will be making a donation.

I would just like to pay a very belated tribute to Heather, who recruited me to the BHS Worcestershire committee.

Back then I was a very busy lady running my own bridleway riding holidays business, but she spotted that this had given me some valuable Access experience and a good grounding in bridleway law.  She came along to our trade stand at Your Horse Live in November 2004 and persuaded me to keep an eye on the bridleways around my home patch in north east Worcestershire, so I reluctantly joined the committee as an Access Assistant.

A couple of years down the line, after some more prompting from Heather, I was promoted to CABO and also took on the role of branch Secretary.  She was a brilliant organiser - one of those rare people who is brilliant at persuading others to get involved - and I will miss her cheerful, no nonsense attitude!

As a one of the mature BHS/MTC Trec members I found Heather's encouragement did much to help me enjoy many happy hours with a whole new group of 'horsey' friends. If the phone went around 6.00 pm my husband knew his supper might be a bit late as Heather was on the line for a chat as she made her way home after her usual hard days work.
Her passing leaves a great gap which will be hard to fill.
Miss you Heather sincerely Gill

Hi everyone
I thought you might like to see these. This was at Bromsgrove and District Riding Club Hunter Trials in April this year where Heather was due to compete again on the Sunday 18. Sadly she and Clueso didnt get the opportunity. What a wonderful pair !

It is with great sadness that I report the untimely death of Heather Lucas. Heather was West Midlands British Horse Society Regional Chair for 5 years as well as a very active committee member of Shropshire County Branch of the BHS. For those of you who were fortunate enough to meet Heather you will know that she lived life to the full. A prominent figure in BHS TREC circles and the BHS in general, she was an inspiration and true friend who believed in speaking her mind and always kept us all on the straight and narrow. She was always keen to help others without a thought for herself. Heather died suddenly on Thursday 15 October. She had just returned from a fabulous holiday in Cyprus with her husband Peter. Also we had planned as a pair to compete Cross Country the following Sunday. She leaves Husband Peter, Mum Mary and Clueso, her trusty steed.
We all miss her very much.........

We were very shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Heather Lucas.  We met Heather several years ago when we took our two young horses on a ride at Weston Park and we soon became friends.  She had a great passion for animals.  Her first horse that we knew was Bodie who was still competing in his late twenties and his fitness and condition were a credit to her.  Then of course came Clueso who we were lucky enough to meet from the start and the progress that Heather made with this young horse was again a credit to her.  Heather encouraged us to have a go at Trec and as a result opened up a world of orienteering on horseback which we have enjoyed for several years.  The world is a poorer place without Heather as she brought so much to so many.
Kind regards

Although I did not know Heather well, I did meet her a few times and each encounter was one to remember. I was struck by her no-nonsense attitude and her ability to 'do everything'.
I f you would like to remember Heather please email your memories so we can celebrate her life and her valuable involvement with the British Horse Society and TREC.
With a sad heart and fond memories
